What if I can't show up for scheduled day
Please call 480-464-2370. Please give us a weeks notice to your scheduled day.
When should I arrive/leave?
For evening meal service, the volunteer shift runs from 4:00pm to 7:30pm; for food box distribution, it runs from 10:00am to 1:30pm. Please let us know if you need to arrive late or leave early.
Will I receive a confirmation call about my date of service?
Confirmation calls/emails are done 1-2 weeks prior to your date of service to ensure that we have enough volunteers to service our many guests. Please respond to these calls/emails in a timely manner.
What is appropriate to wear?
Safety and our mission require that volunteers dress modestly and comfortably with closed–toed shoes. (no bare shoulders, spaghetti straps or bare midriffs, no short-shorts, no sandals, flip flops, high heels, or open toed shoes.
What do I do when I arrive at Paz to volunteer?
Sign in and report to a staff member or meal coordinator.
Do volunteers need to be a certain age to volunteer at Paz?
Due to the nature of volunteer tasks, we suggest that volunteers be at least 12 years old. Volunteers who are 12-15 years old should be accompanied by an adult.
May I bring extra people?
Please call ahead if you need to schedule additional volunteers.
What do I need to know about working in a commercial kitchen?
Maricopa County Health Code guidelines are posted in the Paz kitchen. Please read them.
Do I need to have a food handler’s card to work at Paz de Cristo?
The Maricopa County Health Code recommends that you obtain a food handler’s card if you volunteer six times or more per year in either our meal service or food box program. If you would like to apply for a card, please inform our volunteer coordinator.
Where should I park?
Please park behind the kitchen/dining area.
May I eat the evening meal being served or should I have dinner before arriving?
Volunteers are welcome to prepare a plate for themselves once all evening meal service guests have been served. Food Box volunteers: We provide water and snacks, but you may bring a sack lunch. Some service is outdoors, so remember to wear a hat and sunscreen.
• Immediately report to the nearest staff member any injury, loss or concern that affects either you or any of our guests.
• Never give a ride, money or personal information (last name, address, phone or email) to any guest under any circumstance. Please refer all such requests to staff on duty.
• Do not engage in any physical contact with our guests that could be misunderstood or result in health risk.
