Paz de Cristo was privileged to be a part of and recipient of an allocation from Mesa United Way’s Kids in Philanthropy program in May. As a way to get our youth thinking about practical ways to help people in need in our community, fifth and sixth grade students from Holmes, Longfellow and Johnson Elementary were given $100 to allocate to whichever 501(c)3’s non-profits organization of their desire.
To help inform their decision students researched, visited several charitable agencies and heard presentations from each organization explaining their programs. Then, students had the responsibility to decide where the $100 would be allocated. The vast majority of the programs total of $27,968.38 was designated to go to programs which meet local needs; Paz de Cristo was allocated $ 3,757.38.
Thank you to the philanthropists who funded this program, the faculty and most of all to the students at Holmes, Longfellow, and Johnson Elementary who took this responsibility very serious and made it a success.
