Propelling People Forward With Support & Opportunities
With today’s growing economy, many wonder how anyone can be homeless.
Yet hundreds of veterans, working poor and seniors on fixed incomes have been hanging on by a thread long before the economy rebounded. When they can no longer afford rising rents, they lose their homes.
The best way to overcome hunger, poverty and homelessness is through shelter and gainful employment.
More Than A Meal. We Feed, Clothe & Empower
At Paz de Cristo, we take a comprehensive, team-based approach to providing support for individuals and families, particularly those facing complex challenges. We partner with trusted agencies to assist job seekers, people experiencing homelessness or mental health challenges.
We can assist people with getting copies of their birth certificate or Arizona State ID. We have a USPS-approved mail room where guests can receive mail instead of using general delivery at a local post office.
Will you give us a hand to help people in need get back on their feet? We can’t do it without you!

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I Get Help With Obtaining An Arizona ID Or Birth Certificate?
Absolutely! If you’re looking to get back on your feet, we’ve got you covered with vouchers to help cover that $12 DMV fee for an Arizona state ID. We also take the stress out of the paperwork and costs for birth certificates during our Wednesday morning sessions. Just remember to head down to our Mesa campus on Tuesdays at 1:00 PM for ID vouchers or Wednesdays at 10:00 AM for birth certificates, and be sure to bring a physical copy of your ID—no photocopies allowed.
Are There Any Age Or Eligibility Requirements To Get Help?
Paz de Cristo is here for anyone in the East Valley facing hunger, poverty, or homelessness. We welcome walk-ins without a referral, serving everyone from the working poor and single parents to seniors and Veterans. While anyone can join us for a nightly meal, please remember to bring a photo ID and proof of address if you’re coming by for an emergency food box.
What Documents Do I Need to Bring to Get Help With Obtaining an Arizona ID or Birth Certificate?
To get help with your Arizona ID, you just need to show up at our Mesa campus on Tuesday at 1:00 PM for a voucher. However, if you are coming for birth certificate assistance on Wednesday morning, you must bring a physical, hard-copy state ID—we cannot accept photos or digital copies of your identification. These documents are essential for us to process the paperwork and cover the fees to get your official records.
How Long Does It Take To Get An Arizona ID Or Birth Certificate Through Your Services?
If you stop by during our Tuesday session, we can get an Arizona ID voucher into your hands right away. Just keep in mind that getting the physical card—or an actual birth certificate—does require a bit more patience for processing. Once you have your voucher, you’ll need to visit the DMV, where your ID will typically arrive in the mail within about two weeks. Birth certificates usually take 7 to 10 business days to process once the paperwork is submitted to the Vital Records office.
Can I Receive My Mail Through The USPS-Approved Mail Room At Paz de Cristo?
You certainly can. Trying to stay on top of life without a permanent address is tough, which is exactly why Paz de Cristo runs a USPS-approved mail room for the Mesa community. It’s a safe, reliable spot to catch important deliveries like a new state ID, your social security checks, or updates from a potential employer.
Do I Need To Be A Resident Of Arizona To Receive Help With Obtaining An Arizona Id Or Birth Certificate?
You don’t need to be a long-term Arizona resident to get our help, as we primarily serve anyone in the East Valley facing hunger or homelessness. However, the state itself requires you to show you currently live in Arizona to actually issue the ID card. If you don’t have standard documents like a utility bill, you can still qualify by using an Arizona Residency Affidavit, which we can help you navigate during your visit.
Can I Use The Mail Room Service If I Don’t Have A Permanent Address?
You certainly can. In fact, providing a reliable mailing address for anyone who is currently displaced or without a permanent home is exactly why we offer this service. It takes the stress out of waiting for crucial paperwork. By using our facility as your stable home base, you can securely receive essential items—like a brand-new Arizona ID or your birth certificate—without the constant worry of them getting lost in transit. Just stop by our Mesa campus Monday through Friday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM to check for any incoming mail.
