Helping People Struggling With Hunger, Poverty & Homelessness

Thousands of people face hunger, homelessness, and a lack of basic living conditions in Maricopa County. At Paz de Cristo, we want to change that. We provide not only meals but also hope and dignity so people can start over. Because a setback is not the end, we strive to give new opportunities for a better future. No one is immune to facing such struggles, and circumstances can change unexpectedly. In those moments, kindness and compassion make the difference.

Through hot meals, clothing, and various support services, our community works to provide emergency food boxes, warm clothing, haircuts, and more. These efforts are rooted in empathy and the belief that every person deserves respect. By participating, volunteers join a community where kindness creates change and everyday actions lead to a better future.

About Paz de Cristo Community Center

A Non-Profit Helping People In The East Valley

Paz de Cristo began in 1988, guided by a simple but powerful mission to feed, clothe, and empower our neighbors in need every single day. Based in Mesa, we warmly welcome thousands of guests each year with hot meals, showers, clean clothing, and even free haircuts to help restore confidence, hope, and dignity.

Our programs also include valuable pathways to employment, helping individuals find meaningful opportunities and take important steps toward lasting independence. At Paz de Cristo, we strongly believe that asking for help should always be met with compassion, and never shame.

Help With Birth Certificates, Arizona IDs & More

We understand that hardship can also take away a person’s sense of empowerment and hope. That’s why at Paz de Cristo we work to remove barriers, helping guests obtain the documents and support they need to start—or return to—work. With these tools, building a more stable, independent future becomes possible. It’s simply about asking for help when it’s needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Types Of Donations Do You Accept?

Anything you feel can help, will help. That’s why we gladly accept a wide range of donations to support our mission. If you have non-perishable food, clean clothing in good condition, personal care items, or monetary contributions, please bring them to us. They truly make a difference! If you have something else you think could be useful, don’t hesitate to mention it. Sometimes, even the smallest or seemingly simplest things can bring great joy to our community.

Are There Age Requirements For Volunteering?

Yes. Volunteers must be at least 12 years old to participate. Likewise, those under 15 need to be accompanied by an adult to ensure a safe and positive experience. Groups are also welcome, though each volunteer team is limited to 10 people so that activities remain well-organized and meaningful for everyone.

Do You Offer Internships Or Long-Term Volunteer Positions?

Yes, we provide meaningful opportunities for internships and long-term volunteer commitments. These roles allow individuals to contribute more deeply while gaining valuable experience in community service, nonprofit operations, and social support work that truly makes a difference. We work closely with volunteers to match skills and interests with meaningful projects that align with their passions.

Do You Offer Opportunities For Corporate Volunteering?

Of course. All contributions are welcome, including those from businesses or organizations. It’s important to note that corporate volunteering can include group service days, donation drives, projects that benefit our guests, or any other resources valuable to our community. We deeply appreciate companies with workforce development programs that are willing to provide new opportunities for the local community.

Can I Volunteer Remotely Or Virtually?

Many of our service days take place in person. However, you are always welcome to help the community, even if it’s virtually. Sometimes, simply sharing our cause on social media, highlighting different ways to support, or assisting with fundraising is enough and deeply appreciated. What truly matters is contributing your skills and willingness to help those in need, whether you are nearby or miles away.

Are There Any Special Volunteer Opportunities During Holidays?

Yes. These are important and very meaningful times, so we organize special events and programs to serve the community. However, this often requires additional volunteers willing to generously share their time, as well as strategic resources that help us create truly memorable moments. Helping is only part of the goal. What truly matters is building a caring space where hope and faith inspire real, lasting change.
