Serving at Paz de Cristo has been part of James Weiss’ personal faith journey.
“After I became a Christian, I remember being filled with so much love and empathy,” James shared. “There are times my heart is bursting with love, God’s love. Volunteering is the perfect way to release His love out to others.”
James started volunteering at Paz de Cristo by serving on an evening meal team of twenty people. He soon received the encouragement and training needed to lead the team as a Meal Coordinator responsible for supervising volunteers to prepare a hot, nourishing dinner for up to 300 guests.
“I always tell meal team volunteers, ‘Paz de Cristo is a sanctuary for our guests. Let’s do everything in our power to make them feel welcome, respected and loved. Let’s extend grace,’” James said.
“I am so grateful to Jim Johnson and Christy Connelly for taking me under their wing and training me,” he explained. “What a blessing to see God’s hand at work.”
Fellowship with people of faith who share the same values draws James to Paz de Cristo. He is inspired by Ezekiel 36:26, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”
James gives all the praise and glory to God. “I’m just a vessel,” he said.
More than 8,000 volunteers gave 37,000 hours of their time and effort at Paz de Cristo last year. We can’t do it without you!
